buttrock

。。star

Addicted to Oil

Another documentary I saw was...
"Who Killed the Electric Car"

It's about GM's EV1 (electric car) and how all electric cars were disappeared. To be honest, I've never heard of this. I never knew that electric car actually existed and they were on a road. It started in CA and auto makers were forced to produce the zero emission cars. But it seems like GM never wanted to produce this car ever because they did not think it was profitable at all. Instead, they wanted to sell big Hummers and SUVs and trucks.

So when the C.A.R.B (California Air Resource Bureau) killed the regulation, GM and other auto makers were so quick to destroy them, never gave the customers the option of buyout.

Americans are definitely addicted to oil. Now the average gas costs over $3/gallon, they still love to drive SUVs or trucks and spend so much money on oil, but their driving habits have not changed much yet. I wonder when they are going to realize that they need to buy more oil efficient cars or change the driving habitsshrug

No More Shopping @ WALMART!

I watched the documentary, WALMART: the high cost of low price, and I saw the reality of that mega retail store. The truth behind their low price... it's so harsh. Yes, I occasionally go to Walmart to buy things because they are cheaper. But I never knew how it was possible and how it affects the community.

Low price is the sacrifice of so many things. Walmart is understaffed purposely; made their employees work for free (overtime without pay); employees volunteer that because they are threatened to be fired constantly. Cheap pay; not good health care available. It's just a terrible condition to work there. Another big reason why price is low is that they use manpower in China. Walmart has many factory workers there; they are made to work for day and night, and they are making only $3 a day! It's like there is no human right at all.

Then the affect of Walmart to the community... the day Walmart arrives to a community, it's a day many small/family businesses die. Walmart steals the customers and destroy the community. And what made me more furious is that the government is helping them!mad Walmart gets millions subsidy dollars from the government and because of that, public schools are forced to be closed; the fire department does not have enough money to keep it up...
And beside destroying the small businesses, Walmart is destroying the environment as well at the same time. They claim they do everything to avoid, but they are not keeping their promises; violating the Clean Water Act! That is not acceptable for me!pucca_love_15

Even though their price is low and attractive, I cannot agree with their principles at all. I'd never go to their stores and drop a penny ever again!!

"Guess Who Is Coming To Dinner"

。。redface

mrgreen

Joy of Giving

I had been looking for a christmas gift for my friend, and I found the perfect gift this morning! It's called

"TisBest Charity Gift Card"

This is not a typical gift card. It is a gift card which gives a recipient the opportunity to donate that money to his/her favorite charity. So instead of spending the money for himself/herself, the money will be used for the environment, orphans/children, endangered species and many more!! Christmas is a time for giving, so why don't we give out and make a difference in this world? I have no doubt that my friend would love this gift card more than any gift I could give..star

Latest technology is not always the greenest..

Christmas is around the corner and many are buying nice and pricey gifts this time of the year. One of things is a big screen TV, such as LCD and plasma. The price is dropping quickly; people tend to buy bigger and better TVs. But are those newer TVs are always better? From an energy-use standpoint, it's NOTsurprised

Actually those TVs will consume more electricity than small conventional television according to this article in Wall Street Journal last week.

If a conventional TV’s annual electricity bill is $30, it would be $130 for a big-screen plasma TV!!! More than 4 times!! By the time other devices are added (speaker, DVDs etc), a whole thing can go $200!!!

People are becoming aware of a global warming and many are trying to go green at home, but they tend to forget about it when it comes to shop for TVs…

I thought a newer technology would offer a better choice for the environment, unfortunately not for a TV yet. Wait for a couple years, then it will get better for suremrgreen
